US Navy EA-18G Growler jets crashed during an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, with all four crew members ejecting safely and surviving the crash.
According to the US Navy, the collision involved two aircraft from the 129th Electronic Warfare Squadron based on Whidbey Island, Washington. The crash occurred during an aerobatic display at the Gunfighter Skies 2026 event.
US Navy Pacific Fleet spokeswoman Commander Amelia Umayam confirmed that all crew members were safely evacuated and immediately transported for medical evaluation.
Footage posted by visitors shows the moment the planes approached each other, then made contact and spun uncontrollably in mid-air. Seconds later, four parachutes were seen opening as the planes plummeted to the ground and exploded upon impact.
Officials confirmed that no visitors or base personnel were injured, while the area around the crash site was immediately closed for investigation. A portion of state highway SH-167 was also closed due to the incident, and authorities expect the closure to last for several days.
The commander of the 366th Fighter Wing, Colonel David Gunter, said that the most important thing is that everyone involved in the accident is safe and praised the rapid response of rescue and emergency services.
The Gunfighter Skies air show was held for the first time since 2018, and among the main attractions was the famous Thunderbirds aerobatic team of the US Air Force.
