A popular pasta sauce has been urgently pulled from supermarket shelves over fears the jars may be contaminated with glass shards.
Food safety authorities have placed a "do not consume" warning on the Organic Alla Norma Sauce product - made with eggplant, tomatoes and garlic.
It is suspected that the product, sold at various retailers including online luxury supermarket Ocado, may contain glass shards.
The manufacturer Organico said that the recall only affects a certain batch of the product, with lot number 140227 and a use-by date of February 14, 2027.
The seller emphasized:
“Please do not consume the product. Return it to the seller for a refund. If the seller does not accept the return, please contact us directly for a refund. We apologize for this situation and for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
However, Organico did not provide details on how the glass shards ended up in the product.
The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA), which issued the warning, also said:
“Recall notices will be posted in all stores that sell the product. These notices explain why the product is being recalled and what consumers should do if they have purchased it.”
The agency added:
"If you have purchased the product mentioned above, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the retailer where you purchased it for a refund."
The FSA issues warnings and product recall orders when serious problems are discovered that make food unsafe for consumption. /GazetaExpress/
