Doing Pilates twice a week can significantly improve sexual desire in women who feel cold or have a lack of interest, according to a new study.

Women who followed this popular exercise regimen experienced a 95% improvement in their level of sexual desire, frequency of orgasms, and overall sexual satisfaction.

Just three months of regular exercise was enough to transform their sex lives – most of them were in their thirties.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise method developed around 100 years ago by German trainer Joseph Pilates. It aims to strengthen the body and increase flexibility, and is currently practiced by around 12 million people in Britain alone.

What did the study reveal?

Scientists from Sakarya University in Turkey analyzed the effect of 12 weeks of Pilates on women who had lost interest in sex.

The study involved 93 women who completed a detailed questionnaire about sexual satisfaction. Half of them then attended Pilates sessions twice a week for an hour, while the other half continued their usual routine without any changes.

After three months, the results showed a significant improvement in the Pilates group – with a stronger libido and more frequent orgasms. Meanwhile, there was no significant change in the other women.

The study was published in the journal BMC Urology.

Why does Pilates help?

Experts believe that Pilates works by strengthening the pelvic floor muscles – which support the bladder, bowels and uterus – and which play a key role in sexual function.

They added:

"We saw undeniable improvements in sexual satisfaction after a 12-week Pilates program – larger studies are now needed to support its effectiveness as a treatment for female sexual dysfunction." /GazetaExpress/
