A doctor has advised people to keep a glass of room-temperature water by their bedside, stressing that this simple habit could help reduce cardiovascular risk during the morning hours.

According to doctor Alberto Sanagustín, the first hours after waking up – especially between 6:00 and 10:00 – are the periods when the risk of cardiac events is highest, due to the sudden changes that occur in the body after sleep.

He explains that immediately after waking up, the body experiences an increase in hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which prepare the body for activity, but can also constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure. This sudden increase, he says, can be a risk factor for the heart.

The role of water in the morning

Sanagustín recommends drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up, even before you get out of bed. According to him, immediate hydration helps blood circulation and prepares the body for the day's activity.

He describes this as a simple but potentially useful step for stabilizing the circulatory system and avoiding sudden voltage fluctuations.

What happens in the body when we wake up

The expert points out that in the morning the body activates a series of biological processes: arteries can temporarily harden, while blood is thicker after hours of sleep and fasting. At the same time, a substance is also activated that slows the dissolution of small blood clots, increasing the risk in certain cases.

The combination of these factors creates, according to him, a "sensitive situation" for the cardiovascular system, especially in people with high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or breathing problems during sleep.

How to get out of bed more safely

In addition to hydration, the doctor advises not to wake up in a hurry. He recommends that the person sit on the edge of the bed for a few moments before getting up completely, giving the body time to gradually adjust.

"Place a glass of water next to your bed and when you wake up, don't get up like there's a fire," he emphasizes, adding that this simple routine can help protect your heart health long-term.

According to him, even small changes in the morning can have a significant impact on reducing stress on the cardiovascular system and preventing sudden increases in blood pressure. /GazetaExpress/
