Judoka Distria Krasniqi achieved a great success on Monday.

She is ranked eighth best among world sports stars.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has ranked the best athletes of 2025, with the top ten published earlier, while the best were announced tonight.

Romanian swimmer David Popovici has been named the Balkan Sportsman of the Year for 2025.

Popovici was the world champion in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle last year, while he received 70 points in the selection.

Serbia's Nikola Jokic, who has a successful NBA career, was named the second best athlete in the Balkans.

In third place was Carlos Nasar, a successful Bulgarian weightlifter.

Behind them are Giannis Antetokounmpo, the NBA star basketball player representing Greece, Croatian skier Zrinka Lutić, Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis, Turkish NBA star Alperen Sengun, Distria Krasniqi, Bulgarian volleyball player Aleksandar Nikolov and Stefanos Ntouskos, a boatman from Greece.

News agencies from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Kosovo, Albania and Serbia voted for the best of the Balkans. The news agency "KosovaPress" voted for Kosovo.

Distria Krasniqi is the highest ranked male and female judoka in the world. She is now considered one of the best female judokas in history.
