Greek club Olympiacos has officially intervened to clarify a series of news stories that have spread on social media and various portals about striker Mehdi Taremi.
According to the club, there is a lot of "fake news" circulating about the player's situation and his plans, and Olympiacos has asked fans and public opinion not to believe this incorrect information, reports "Gazeta Express".
In a statement released by the Greek club, Olympiacos has asked for respect and calm, adding that the information that has been distributed about Taremi is unfounded and mere speculation.
The club has not confirmed that news as true — on the contrary, it has described it as misleading and unreliable.
This fake news – spread mainly on social media – suggested that the Iranian striker had expressed his desire to leave the club and return to his homeland to defend his country following tensions in the Middle East.
However, neither Taremi nor Olympiacos' management had made any official announcement about the case in question.
Furthermore, much of this information shared online is unverified and often refers to unofficial sources, which causes it to lose credibility.
Olympiacos has stressed the importance of respect and not spreading unfounded news, asking fans and the media community to await official communications from the club or the player himself regarding any possible developments regarding Tarem's future. /Express newspaper
