Valon Vataj, owner of the company "KAWA Group" and president of the Construction Association in Kosovo, said on EURO n'T7 that the association has ceased all public activities in order not to become part of political party campaigns.
He said that the construction sector remains the main pillar of the economy in the country due to the large volume of investments and also the large number of employees, which exceed the figure of over 100 thousand workers.
According to him, Kosovo is an attractive place for investment also because of favorable tax rates, but according to him, this sector also faces major administrative and legal problems.
"We have a problem with the legal basis. For example, in 2013 the process of zonal maps was launched and we are in 2026, while the vast majority of municipalities do not have zonal maps. The lack of zonal maps is a very big problem, because we cannot even attract foreign investments due to the lack of a legal basis. As direct investors, we have over 50 thousand employees, while indirectly over 100 thousand of our citizens work in the construction sector," said Vataj.
Vataj also spoke about the big promises made by political parties during the election campaign for this sector, from the approval of zoning maps to the legalization process, which is keeping billions of euros of real estate blocked.
"If you talk to different politicians now and make requests on behalf of the Construction Association, they will all say we are doing it, but after the campaign they will remain only as promises in most cases. Politicians have no problem with us facing debates or even protests after the campaign. A lot of noise is being created and their approach is not the right one to solve the problems," Vataj added.
Vataj said that Kosovo has great development potential, but that the legal basis, which is often proving to be an obstacle to development, must be addressed and resolved.
