Chinese scientists have created a deadly virus using a glycoprotein found in Ebola.
The new virus they created wiped out a group of rodents.
Researchers from Hebei Medical University conducted a study on hamsters, who after receiving the infectious disease and the Ebola protein that causes the virus to spread, found that they developed severe systemic illnesses similar to those seen in Ebola patients, reports the Mirror.
In a study of hamsters published in Science Direct, a particularly unpleasant symptom was discovered, which appeared in the form of crusts on the surface of the eyeball that affected their vision.
The World Health Organization states that Ebola is a rare but extremely serious disease that is often fatal in humans. It occurs when the virus enters the body through cuts in the skin or by touching the eyes, mouth or nose.
Symptoms of Ebola include fever, fatigue, and headache.
Researchers said the goal is to reproduce Ebola symptoms in the laboratory to better understand the condition and prevent its spread.
