Following the killing of Charlie Kirk during a public rally in the US, Italian authorities have decided to tighten security measures for top state officials. Although no direct or indirect threats to officials have been reported in Italy, the incident in the US has raised concerns about the safety of political figures internationally.
The Italian Interior Ministry issued an official circular on Friday, ordering a "review and possible strengthening of risk profile measures" to prevent any similar incidents.
Increased protection measures will be taken for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as well as for the two deputy prime ministers, Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini.
Sources from the Italian authorities say that the situation is being closely monitored, while security services have been put on high alert to guarantee the protection of state officials.
