Communication:

The Special Department has ordered pre-trial detention against defendants AD, MB, S.Sh., and M.Sh.

Prishtina, April 16, 2026 – The Basic Court in Prishtina, Special Department has decided on the request of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, for the imposition of a detention order in the criminal case against the defendants AD, MB, S. Sh., and M.Sh., due to the well-founded suspicion that they have committed the criminal offense of Participation in or organization of an organized criminal group and the criminal offense of Unauthorized purchase, possession, distribution and sale of narcotics, psychotropic substances or analogues.

The pre-trial judge approved the request of the Special Prosecution Office of the Republic of Kosovo for the imposition of pre-trial detention against the defendants AD, MB, S. Sh. and M.Sh., imposing a pre-trial detention period of 1 (one) month for each.

After holding the hearing, the Court assessed that the imposition of a pre-trial detention measure in this criminal case is an adequate measure since there is a real risk that the defendants will evade criminal proceedings and will not be held accountable by the justice authorities. The Court considers that the nature of the criminal offences for which the defendants are suspected, the organised manner in which they were committed, the cross-border scope of the suspected criminal activity, the large quantity of narcotics seized and the fact that the investigations are still ongoing and include the analysis of material evidence, show that no more lenient measure would be capable of neutralising the concrete risks that exist at this stage of the proceedings.

Against this decision, the dissatisfied parties have the right to appeal to the Court of Appeal, through the Basic Court in Pristina.
