Michael Carrick has revealed he expects an official announcement on Manchester United's next permanent manager within "a few days", following the club's dramatic 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The interim manager also praised captain Bruno Fernandes, who equalled the Premier League's all-time record for most assists in a season during the match at Old Trafford.
According to The Independent, Carrick has reached a preliminary agreement to stay on as United's permanent manager, although he did not officially confirm this on Sunday.
United secured victory over Forest and finished the season in third place.
Luke Shaw put the home side ahead, before Morato equalised for the visitors.
Matheus Cunha restored United's lead, while Bryan Mbeumo scored to make it 3-1.
Morgan Gibbs-White's late goal wasn't enough for Forest.
After the match, the 44-year-old addressed the fans at Old Trafford, expressing hope for many great moments in the future.
Then, speaking to the media, he gave an update on the coach's situation.
"In the coming days there will be clarity on the situation. Today the most important thing was the game and the result, as well as a few individuals. Whatever news there is, I'm sure you will get it in a few days," Carrick said.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes continued to make history by recording his 20th assist in the league, as he set up Bryan Mbeumon in the 75th minute for United's third goal.
With this, the Portuguese equalled the record for most assists in a Premier League season, held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
Carrick expressed great pride in the way his captain handled the pressure during the match.
“I think he managed it extremely well,” the coach said.
"When you look at him from the bench you think: 'What's going through his mind? Is he looking for the pass? Is he looking for the goal? Is he thinking twice?' I think he handled it fantastically. It was a very beautiful moment for everyone and he deserves all the praise," he said.
Carrick's impact at Old Trafford has been immense, leading the club through a difficult period under Ruben Amorim.
Before his departure in January, Amorimi had managed United in 20 Premier League matches in the 2025-26 season, recording just eight wins, seven draws and five losses.
In stark contrast, Carrick has transformed the team since taking charge, leading the team to 16 league matches with 11 wins, three draws and just two losses.
This great comeback has saved Manchester United's season and secured the club's return to the Champions League./Express newspaper/
