American national security expert James Carafano has stated that the administration of US President Donald Trump remains interested in restarting the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, based on its approach from its first term.
In an interview with RTS, Carafano stressed that Trump had been "very clear" on the issue and had previously put an agreement on the table as a basis for moving forward. According to him, there is interest in returning to that process and continuing negotiations.
"Look, the president was very clear about this in his first term, and he put an agreement on the table on how to move forward with Kosovo and Serbia. I think he would be very interested in going back to this and continuing that process."
He even added that the US administration is looking for partners willing to cooperate and that it will advance with countries that show a willingness for partnership.
“But I think he’s looking for partners he can work with, and that’s why he’s going to move forward with countries that want to cooperate with him,” says Carafano, who says the United States has been clear about how it sees cooperation and relations between Kosovo and Serbia. “I think the Trump administration has been very clear about how it sees the partnership between Kosovo and Serbia.”
