Iran has warned it will take "necessary action" against US forces after the US military seized an Iranian-flagged ship in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the state news agency, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces were ready for an immediate response to what they described as “open aggression” by the US. However, the reaction was limited due to the presence of the crew’s family members on board the ship.
The Tasnim Agency reported that once the safety of the families and crew is guaranteed, Iranian forces will act against the US military, which they called "terrorists," CNN reports.
Meanwhile, the US Navy said the Iranian ship was seized while trying to pass through a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important routes for global oil transport.
The incident has further escalated tensions between the two countries and prompted Iran to withdraw from the second round of ceasefire talks scheduled for this week.
