Alliance for the Future of Kosovo MP, also a member of the Health Committee, Albana Bytyqi, has requested that therapy for people diagnosed with cancer be provided in regional hospitals, reports Ekonomia Online.

This is because, as she says, many of these people with this disease have difficult economic conditions and coming to Pristina to receive therapy is very difficult.

"Of course, this is necessary to provide you with support. But when I was in the previous legislature, I requested that chemotherapy be distributed in particular to the regional regions, for example, we had it in Prizren. This worked for a very short time, then it was stopped because the cases we have with serious illnesses are also in poor economic conditions and are unable to come to receive therapy in Pristina and return. But I requested it and I don't know how long it is currently functioning, but I will be interested to see how the procedure is going," Bytyqi told EO.

The Director of the Oncology Clinic, Ilir Kurtishi, said in an interview a few days ago that during the period January - March 20 alone, around 500 patients were diagnosed and treated for the first time at the Oncology Clinic.

"In Kosovo, around 2100 new cases are registered per year, this translates into approximately 170-190 cases per month, so for the period January - March 20: around 500 new patients examined/diagnosed and treated at the Oncology Clinic for the first time. Every working day around 250-300 patients are treated in the Medical Oncology service and around 140 patients per day are irradiated in the Radiotherapy Service, so over 450 patients in total are treated at the Oncology Clinic," said Kurtishi.
