A new study shows that Britons still use a simple tool to decide who takes the laundry out of the washing machine or what to watch on TV: the coin.
According to the survey of 2,000 adults, more than half of adults in the UK use coin flips to resolve everyday disputes at home, from assigning homework to choosing what to eat for dinner.
A third of respondents use the coin primarily to decide who goes first in a game or activity, but it is also often used for common arguments such as: who does the dishes, who takes out the trash, or who walks the dog.
When it comes to choosing, “Heads” is the most popular option, with 44% always choosing it, compared to just 19% choosing “Tails.” A third (31%) change their choice depending on their mood.
One in four Britons admit they secretly hope the coin falls "wrong", because the "wrong" result often confirms their true wish.
The survey was conducted by Foxy in collaboration with Denise Van Outen and Duncan James, who faced a series of challenges posed by a coin toss. The results showed that 49% of respondents consider a coin toss to be a fair way to resolve a dispute, although 37% of those who flipped a coin to make a decision disagreed with the outcome. If they didn't like the outcome, 39% simply flipped again until they got the result they wanted.
Sara Jolly from online gaming site Foxy said: "Life is full of little choices and sometimes it's nice to add an element of fun. We encourage people to use currency to bring fun and spontaneity to everyday moments and routine decisions." /GazetaExpress/
