Opposition MP Blerim Bexheti of the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) today called for a debate among North Macedonian Albanians about what he called "a new state arrangement", if Prime Minister Hrisijan Mickoski does not respect the 2001 Ohrid Agreement.

"In the state we really have a serious problem where, I invite both the Macedonian population, but also the Albanians, if necessary, to talk about how we read the Ohrid Agreement and how we understand it. You will witness that the purpose of all these actions and political pressures is for this and for the integration process, and if there is no agreement, the Albanians have the legitimate right to seek a new state regulation, and to determine for themselves how and where they want to live...", TV21 quoted Bexheti as saying today in a press conference summoned today for the lawsuit that the prosecutor's office filed against him last week for the time he was mayor of Saraj.

Bexheti has denied the accusations and said he did nothing wrong.
The DUI MP sees the indictment as pressure on Albanians by Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.

According to him, part of the pressures on Albanians is Mickoski's contestation of the Albanian language.

"The pressure is put on Albanians, and when the elected representatives of the people, where there is no basis, where there is no fact, act. And now Albanians are assessing whether the contestation of the Albanian language is pressure. Albanians assess that from ethnic representation it becomes ethical representation. Albanians assess and react, and it is no coincidence that Albanians are taking to the streets and protesting," he continued, accusing Mickoski of not implementing the Ohrid Agreement nor implementing the country's integration process into the European Union.

"Is there any other perspective besides the Ohrid Agreement and the integration process? And therefore I reiterate that Albanians have the legitimate right to open a broad debate among Albanians for a new state order and to determine for themselves what they want and where they want to live," the DUI MP reiterated.
