Changing rooms for visiting teams are often cold and uncomfortable, but in an unusual case in China, one football club has gone much further to destabilize its opponent.
Chinese third-tier team Changchun Xidu has been fined after placing objects with mystical connotations in their opponents' dressing room before a match against Shanxi Chongde on June 28.
According to the Chinese Football Association, the club had placed superstitious symbols in the opponents' room in order to create psychological uncertainty before the match. Images posted on social media showed yellow cards stuck to the wall, resembling amulets and containing messages such as: "By decree, Shanxi must be defeated."
Following an investigation launched by league authorities, Changchun Xidu has been fined over $4, Reuters reports.
