Everyone who knows me knows that my favorite Albanian writer is Ben Blushi. I have never publicly hidden my appreciation for the way he describes events, narrates emotion, and dares to touch on taboos that our society often does not even discuss. Although I may sound subjective, I have tried to be as objective as possible in my analysis of Blushi, contributing as much as I can to the public debate that he himself has ignited – whether with words or with silence.

In a country where the past is quickly forgotten and the future is easily manipulated, Ben Blushi remains one of the most unusual figures in our public space. He is not simply a famous writer, or a former politician with a turbulent life. He is a prophet of Albanian letters and politics – an author who, without noise and without propaganda, has predicted with frightening accuracy the path that Albania would take.

Already in the book “The Moon of Albania”, Blushi wrote not about what had happened, but about what was coming. He predicted the disappearance of the middle class and the deep division between the rich and the poor, where economic polarization would become an incurable social wound. These were not political slogans, but sociological analyses neatly disguised in prose. Today, when we see an economy concentrated in a few hands, a majority that leaves the country every day and a system that serves only the elites, we understand that Blushi was not writing novels – but warnings.

He also predicted the isolation of Sali Berisha, at a time when no one imagined such a scenario possible. Today, Berisha is a symbol of a closed era, which is dragging behind him even the party that was once Albania's bridge to the West. Stripped of any international legitimacy, but clinging to power through shady deals, this is precisely the profile that Blushi described with piercing calm, long before it became a reality.

In the novel “The Candidate”, Blushi’s prophetic dimension takes on an even clearer form. He speaks of a Socialist Party captured by gangs, of a political elite replaced by criminals, of a Prime Minister who becomes the guarantor of this dark transition. What once seemed like a literary fable, today is everyday life – in international relations and in Albanian reality, where behind the new figures hide the old clans with dark economic-criminal interests of the Socialist Party.

In “The Plot,” Blushi dares to touch on another wound – the clash over Northern Kosovo, at a time when this scenario seemed unthinkable. He also mentions Shëngjin as a point of settlement for immigrants, a detail that seemed fictional at the time, but is reality today. His literature was not just fiction – it was a reality written several years before it happened.

In “Artificial Paradise,” Blushi touches on another horizon of the future – the power of artificial intelligence and the transformation of the world order through technology. Today, Albania has a Minister of Artificial Intelligence, Diella, a name that sounds like a literary metaphor, but which has become a political fact. Once again, Blushi’s word preceded the state’s decision, like an invisible conductor speaking through books.

In a country where words are often used to hide the truth, Blushi has used them to reveal it. He has not always been liked or understood. But in silence, without flags or clans, he has built an archive of the future, where the most important events are written before they happen.

Perhaps it is time for Albania to read more – not to forget reality, but to understand that prophecies are not inherited by word of mouth, but by knowledge written in books. And Blushi did not write simply to tell us about the past, but to warn us about what is coming next.
