The main topic in Spanish football at the moment is Nico Williams' decision to sign a 10-year contract with Athletic Club, thus rejecting a move to Real Madrid's eternal rivals, Barcelona. Although "Los Blancos" are no longer directly involved in the matter, there is no shortage of comments and reactions on social networks from their fans, who have mocked Barcelona for the failure of this deal.
Earlier in the summer, Real Madrid had shown interest in Williams as a possible replacement for Rodrygo Goes, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal. However, the Madrid club dropped their pursuit after signing Argentine talent Franco Mastantuono, who will join Xabi Alonso's side when he turns 18 in August.
Barcelona then intervened in the race and there was much optimism in Catalonia about finalizing the deal, but for the second year in a row, Nico decided to stay in Bilbao.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has preferred to stay out of the issue. When asked by the media on Friday (via Marca), he made it clear:
"I don't care. It's something that doesn't affect Real Madrid. Therefore, I don't care at all. This is not news for Real."
During the interview, Bellingham was also asked about his close friend, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has been hit hard by the tragic news of the death of his former Liverpool teammate, Diogo Jota.
"It's been a very difficult time for him. They were teammates for five years. We as a team are here to support him. Trent is reflecting, thinking and dealing with this in his own way. We all send our condolences to Diogo's family and friends," Bellingham said with empathy.
