A Barcelona player was involved in an embarrassing situation after being banned from voting during the club's presidential election.

The club is in an election period, where Joan Laporta and Victor Font are facing off to become the next president of Barcelona.

The vote will determine whether Laporta will continue to remain at the helm of the club or whether Font will take the helm to usher in a new era.

The voting process is scheduled to take place at Camp Nou, where thousands of club members are expected to cast their votes.

Some first-team players have voting rights, as do the technical staff, as they are members of the club.

Among them are Hector Fort and Aitana Bonmati, who voted.

Meanwhile, Marc-André ter Stegen, who joined Girona on loan in January, thought he had the right to vote but was blocked from doing so during the process.

The German goalkeeper was the first player to show up at the club's headquarters on election day.

He went to the polling station and even showed up at the polling station to cast his vote, but was unable to do so.

Ter Stegen has been a member of the club since his transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2014.

He spent time with his advisors and reviewed the documentation in an attempt to resolve the problem and vote, but the situation was not resolved and he was unable to exercise his right to vote.

According to Spanish media outlet SPORT, Ter Stegen was not eligible to vote because he was not present during the registration of club members (socios).

Also, his membership details were reportedly not updated on the club's electoral roll.

Ter Stegen played just eight league games during the 2024/25 season, which led to his departure from Barcelona.

He signed with Girona on loan in January until the end of the season.

The 33-year-old has only made two appearances for Girona, after suffering an injury.

Of his injury he said: "I see my team every day and they look good. I didn't expect this latest injury, but we have to accept it./Express newspaper/
