FC Barcelona has finally met the requirements to open a fourth stand at Camp Nou and will thus be able to increase the stadium's capacity.

So far, matches have been held with a capacity of 46,400 fans and only three stands open, as the safety standards set by the City Council were not met in the area behind the Gol Nord stand.

The club had initially announced that the fourth stand would reopen for the first home game of 2026, in mid-January, but as has often happened with this project, work has faced delays. Now, however, the City Council has given the green light to activate the final phase of the reopening plan, called “1C”, after the latest inspection.

The capacity will increase by around 16,000 fans, which represents an increase of around a third of the stadium and, consequently, an increase in revenue. According to “MD”, the new capacity by the end of the season will be 62,700 seats. The plan is for the fourth stand to open for the match against Sevilla FC this Sunday (16:15 CEST), which also coincides with the day of the elections for the presidency of the club. Joan Laporta and Victor Font are in the running for the post of president and the vote will be held on Sunday.

The Catalan giants are also working to secure UEFA approval in time for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg tie against Newcastle United. According to Cadena SER, most of the new seats will be allocated to club members. Barcelona have announced that 14,000 of the new seats will be allocated to members, who will be able to buy season tickets for the remainder of the season.

The final phase of the project is the reopening of the stadium's third level, which is not expected to happen before next season.
