Coach Hansi Flick has spoken positively about Christensen in public but has been unable to use him much during his tenure, with the Danish defender making just 97 appearances in the four seasons since his zero-sum game arrival from Chelsea.

They report that negotiations have been ongoing for months, with the Catalan club offering a significant salary reduction, but an agreement has finally been reached.
Flick's trust in Christensen is cited as a key factor, as is the player's desire to stay at Barcelona.
The Denmark international also had offers from Saudi Arabia this summer.
