The former chairman of the Commission for Drafting the Constitution of Kosovo, Arsim Bajrami, has said that Kosovo should not make any compromises beyond those it accepted with the declaration of Kosovo's independence.
He said that even the formation of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities should not be part of any compromise.
"Kosovo should not accept any compromise beyond those we accepted when we declared independence. In this sense, the idea of an Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities must always take into account the unitary character, the Constitution of Kosovo. So, there is no Serbian republic, there is no third power, there is a guiding Association that deals with Serb-majority municipalities in cooperation with Kosovo institutions," Bajrami said on Tevë1.
Former Minister Bajrami said that Kosovo must fulfill its international obligation to the Association, ensuring that it lives in the spirit of the Constitution.
He assessed that the country has been delayed and the failure to form the Association could have consequences.
"Kosovo must take this step courageously, not delay it. We have been delayed due to lack of courage and any delay can cost us. The government must courageously conclude this international obligation, submit the statute of the Association to the constitutional court and be sure that it does not endanger the Constitution of Kosovo, neither in spirit nor in letter," said Bajrami.
