The US Navy will block the Strait of Hormuz, Donald Trump announced earlier, after talks in Islamabad failed to produce an agreement between the US and Iran, the BBC reported, Gazeta Express reports.
It is a critical maritime route through which approximately 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas is transported.
The geography of the strait has allowed Iran to use it as leverage throughout this war, selectively preventing ships from passing through the narrow waterway and driving up oil prices in the process.
