Technical workers at several schools in Pristina have gone on strike because they have not received their salaries for the month of April.
Technical workers at the schools "Dardania", "Asim Vokshi", "Gjergj Fishta", "Ismail Qemali", "Hasan Prishtina" and other schools in the capital have gone on strike.
The President of the Trade Union Federation of Private Sector Workers of Kosovo, Jusuf Azemi, said that the strike is being held in almost all schools in Pristina and that the workers will not return to work until their salaries are paid.
"The vast majority of schools, however, so far I have no information that any school has broken the strike. So I think that all schools are on strike. The request for a strike is because today is the 19th and we have not received our salaries for the month of April. Our salaries are so low that even when we receive them on time, we cannot make ends meet, let alone now we have entered the third week that we have not received them. This situation is even more aggravated by the fact that the vast majority of us have loans and every day our banks call us for their interest. Realistically, we do not know the reason why the payment has not been made. We have communicated spontaneously with the relevant institutions, but we do not care now whether the companies or the municipality of Pristina are to blame, we only care about our salaries. Otherwise, it is even worse for these workers now, some schools since May 1 and some since May 11, have no contract at all and in fact it is something like anarchy and excessive. We have no salaries, we have no contracts, but in fact all we have, we have the union organization, we are on strike in almost all schools at the level of the municipality of Pristina and we will hold the actors of the municipality of Pristina responsible for this irregularity. Why should they pay and they need these workers with these salaries to say miserable, so that at least we have the legal deadline for making payments. They have not done it and it is normal that we do not provide our services in all schools at the level of Pristina, "he said.
Azemi said the strike will continue until workers receive their salaries in their bank accounts.
"We do not intend to fire anyone, nor to fire anyone. Our decision and our power is to strike, and this strike is very normal and will last until we see the salaries with our own eyes, otherwise we do not trust anyone. The moment the salaries are credited to our accounts, we will return to work. Otherwise, we will continue with the strike, we are saying daily, and we will not perform any service," he said.
He added that companies that were contracted with the Municipality of Pristina no longer have active contracts, while accusing the municipality of not resolving the situation.
"I said once again, we don't want to mention the companies because the companies have completed their mandate. They no longer have contracts with the municipality of Pristina and all of this has expired. What's even worse is that a week or two ago, the leaders of the municipality of Pristina promised us that new companies would come to manage until the new operator was selected. And this, as can be seen, is not happening because these workers have been here for almost 20 days and they don't have contracts at all, and there is a possibility that perhaps no one will pay them during this period because someone wants anarchy and there will be anarchy," he said./EO/
