Negotiations between FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Julian Alvarez have officially begun. The news was announced by journalist Veronica Brunati, who reports that the parties have entered into concrete talks for one of the biggest transfers of the summer.
According to reports, Atletico Madrid are not interested in accepting the initial offer of 100 million euros made by Barcelona. However, the Catalan club is ready to come back with a new counter-offer of 135 million euros plus bonuses and additional variables.
Talks are continuing intensively, with Barcelona sporting director Deco, Alvarez's agents and Juanma Lopez in constant contact with Atletico Madrid executives.
The report adds that both Barcelona and Alvarez himself are putting pressure on the Madrid club to close the deal within the next few days, before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Argentine striker is seen as Barcelona's main target for the offensive department and as the ideal successor to Robert Lewandowski in Hansi Flick's new project.
Although negotiations remain complicated due to Atletico Madrid's high financial demands, the atmosphere between the parties appears positive and the deal is progressing at a rapid pace.
