Exactly three decades after their last major trophy, Aston Villa ended a 44-year wait for European glory, convincingly defeating SC Freiburg 3-0 in the UEFA Europa League final at Besiktas Park.

With this loss, the German team continues to wait for the first major trophy in its history.

Dressed in all white in tribute to the heroes of the 1982 European Cup triumph, Villa started strongly and took just two minutes to register their first shot on goal. Morgan Rogers tried a powerful shot, forcing Noah Atubolun to make a crucial save at the start of Freiburg's first ever European final.

A little later, Nicolas Höfler had the first serious chance for the German team, but his left-footed shot ended up outside Emiliano Martínez's goal.

At the end of the first half, Aston Villa showed their strength with two goals in seven minutes. Initially, the English team scored after a well-worked corner kick. Rogers received the ball after a short corner kick, while the Villa players in the area blocked the defenders to create space for Youri Tielemans. The Belgian midfielder made perfect use of the cross, scoring with a low and precise volley to beat Atubuolu.

Tielemans' beautiful goal was overshadowed moments later by Emiliano Buendía's spectacular finish in first-half stoppage time. The Argentine quickly turned to the edge of the area and fired a precision shot into the far corner, sparking a celebration from the Aston Villa fans on the other side of the stadium.

If Freiburg's European dreams hadn't been dashed before the break, they were finally dashed just before the 60th minute. Rogers scored Villa's third goal, breaking free of his defender and deflecting the ball into the net after a low cross from Buendía.

Rogers' third Europa League goal forced manager Julian Schuster to make two substitutions, but it was too late to change the outcome. Aston Villa threatened a fourth through Buendía and then John McGinnis, while Freiburg could only hold on to a 3-0 deficit.

For Aston Villa fans, this mattered little. They celebrated a major European trophy, in a season where the team also finished in the top five of the Premier League. For Unai Emery, this was the fifth triumph in the Europa League, further strengthening his status as the master of this competition. /GazetaExpress/
