Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has promised Real Madrid defender Álvaro Carreras a key role as a star in his team next season, according to reports.
The Gunners lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Sunday, allowing Pep Guardiola's side to return to the title race, with City now just three points behind and with a game in hand.
Arsenal can still end the season with the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy, as Arteta aims to make history.
Regardless of how the season ends, Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta are already planning for the summer transfer window, with a clear idea of the reinforcements needed.
Reports from Spain claim that Arteta has "promised" Real Madrid left-back Carreras that he "will be the star" of Arsenal if he leaves the Bernabéu for north London.
It is said that Álvaro Arbeloa is "losing faith" in the Spanish player, as Ferland Mendy has become the first choice in that position.
A "change of scenery" could be considered in the summer for Carreras, with Arsenal having expressed an interest and with Arteta reportedly already in contact with him to suggest he would have a bigger role in London than at Real Madrid.
