Arsenal have completed the transfer of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, in a deal worth around £60m.
This is the second reinforcement of the "Gunners" this summer, after the transfer of the goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabflatters from Chelsea for £5 million.
Zubimendi, 26, rejected a move to Liverpool last summer. He came through the Real Sociedad academy and has made 236 first-team appearances, scoring 10 goals. He has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal.
Last season he was part of the team that was eliminated by Manchester United in the Europa League with a score of 4-1 at Old Trafford. Sociedad ended the season in 11th place in La Liga.
Zubimendi was also part of the Spanish national team that won Euro 2024, coming on in the second half of the final against England, replacing Rodri. Mikel Oyarzabal's goal brought the trophy to Spain.
Me 19 appearances for SpainZubimendi has become a regular starter in the absence of Rodri, who suffered a serious knee injury last season. He also scored in the Nations League final against Portugal, which Spain lost on penalties.
Arsenal have also reached an agreement with Brentford for the transfer of the midfielder. Christian Norgaard, for an initial amount of 10 million pounds.
