Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to abandon his attempts to sign Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes in the coming days.

The Gunners are active on several fronts in the transfer market, as Arteta aims to build a squad that will challenge for the Premier League title in the 2025/26 season. One of the most advanced moves is the approach of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, a transfer that is expected to be completed in early July.

Meanwhile, previous target Nico Williams is likely to join Barcelona or stay at Athletic Bilbao.

Arteta is desperate to bring in a new name to the attack, but the club are unwilling to pay a fee considered excessive for Rodrygo — with Real Madrid demanding around £77 million for the Brazilian forward.

Although Bukayo Saka is the only confirmed starter in the front line, Arteta is open to a variety of attacking options. Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Šeško are also on the wish list, but talks have yet to progress.

Arteta has been keeping an eye on Rodrygo, but Arsenal's board are unwilling to offer more than £70m, which could force the Spanish manager to turn his attention elsewhere next month.

According to Football London, Arsenal are now considering a move for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, a former academy product of the club. Eze has a release clause of £68m, but Arsenal believe they can reduce that to £60-65m through negotiations.

The England international is set to leave Selhurst Park for a Champions League club, and has greater flexibility than Rodrygo, as he can play as a midfielder and in the attacking wing.
