This week Apple introduced the new iPhone 16 and has now announced that it has officially ended the sale of three of its models.
These are the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which can still be found on offer from third-party sellers and in some stores at a significantly lower price, but Apple will no longer sell them .
That doesn't mean that those who currently own an iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max should get rid of their devices as soon as possible, as they will continue to receive iOS and security updates. Also, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support Apple's Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative called Apple Intelligence, and should also receive iOS updates as well as security updates over the next few years.
This year, Apple's 2017 models, including the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, are losing support for iOS 18 and security updates. The oldest iPhones to receive iOS 18 will be the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR, which were released in 2018.
Those who want one that supports Apple's AI initiative will need to buy an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, or iPhone 16 Pro Max. All these models have 8 GB of RAM, which is the minimum amount of memory for the iPhone to support Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence debuts on the iPhone 16 series with the arrival of iOS 18.1 in October. Additional AI capabilities will become available with the arrival of iOS 18.2 in December.
Although the iPhone 13, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are no longer on sale from Apple, this does not mean the end of them. Service providers will not be able to order replacement parts for these devices until 2031.
