John Stones announced on Tuesday that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, when his current contract expires.
At the age of 31, Stones leaves the club with 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League – the first in City's history.
Although he was one of the most important players during the Pep Guardiola era, injuries and physical problems have plagued him in recent seasons.
This season he has played only 15 games, starting only four of them – the lack of continuity was decisive for the contract not to be renewed.
His departure follows that of Bernardo Silva, who is also expected to leave City in June when his contract expires.
The English club will have to enter the transfer market to replace the defender, or bring back Vitor Reis, who is on loan at Girona this season.
Stones remains optimistic about securing a place at this year's World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada, and was part of coach Thomas Tuchel's latest squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
In total, Stones - who joined City in 2016 from Everton for over €50m - has made 293 appearances for the Citizens and hopes to leave with a few more trophies to his name.
This season he has already won the Carabao Cup and could leave with two more trophies: the FA Cup, where City are in the final against Chelsea, as well as the Premier League title, where they are currently in a close race with Arsenal./Express newspaper/
