Former tennis great Andy Murray has broken his silence on his relationship with Emma Raducanu, following the uproar created by her withdrawal from the mixed doubles at Wimbledon 2024.
Murray, who retired from tennis after the 2024 Paris Olympics, recalled that last year's situation was a difficult emotional moment for him, but has clarified that any misunderstanding between him and Raducanu is now behind him.
In an interview with The Times, the three-time Grand Slam winner said:
"We exchanged a few messages after Wimbledon and everything was made clear. It was a very emotional time for me and everyone around me, so it was difficult, but I'm happy with the way my career ended. I ended it playing my last match at Wimbledon with my brother, Jamie."
Murray added that his relationship with Raducanu is the same as before:
"Emma is not someone I constantly talked to or discussed her game with, so nothing has changed in that regard."
Raducanu, who withdrew from the doubles due to a hand injury, had publicly apologized after her decision. At the time, the disappointment of Murray and his mother, Judy, made headlines in the media, but tensions appear to have subsided.
Murray has left behind a brilliant career, with three Grand Slams, two Olympic gold medals and two Wimbledon titles (2013 and 2016). On the other hand, Raducanu remains the main hope of British women's tennis, after her triumph at the 2021 US Open. /GazetaExpress/
