The US is moving to deploy thousands of additional troops to the Middle East in the coming days, as Washington aims to pressure Iran to reach a deal to end the conflict.
As The Washington Post reports, based on several current and former officials who spoke anonymously, the reinforcements are said to include a personnel of about 6 people aboard the aircraft carrier "USS George HW Bush" and its accompanying ships, according to current and former officials who spoke anonymously.
About 4.200 other troops, part of the "Boxer" Amphibious Group and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, are also expected to arrive at the end of April.
This buildup is expected to add to existing forces in the region as the two-week ceasefire approaches its deadline on April 22.
These troops will join a personnel of about 50 Americans that the Pentagon has announced are already engaged in operations against Iran.
The report says the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering further air strikes or ground operations if the fragile ceasefire fails.
Talks were held in the Pakistani capital Islamabad over the weekend to try to finally end the US-Israeli war against Iran that began on February 28, but no agreement was reached.
Efforts are also underway to hold another round of talks.
