American Balkans analyst Edward P. Joseph has stated that in the current geopolitical circumstances, Kosovo's main strategic priority should be strengthening its role as a factor of stability and cooperation in the region.
In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Joseph emphasized that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's political difficulties create an opportunity for Kosovo to benefit in the international arena.
According to him, after Vučić's diplomatic engagements in Paris and London, Prime Minister Albin Kurti should focus on stabilizing the domestic situation.
"Kosovo's strategic priority should be to exploit Vučić's difficulties to emerge as a pillar of stability and cooperation in the Balkans," Joseph declared.
He emphasized the need for Kurti to show state responsibility and work with the opposition to reach a compromise on the election of the president.
"Kurti should cooperate with the opposition on a compromise solution for the president," he said.
Joseph also underlined the importance of commitment to non-majority communities, suggesting that the prime minister take concrete steps to build trust, especially with the Serb community in Kosovo.
"He should visit the Serbs and guarantee that health and other services will continue without interruption, until full institutional integration," Joseph said.
According to him, the international situation is changing, with Vučić facing increasing pressure from the European Union and without the previous support from leaders like Viktor Orbán.
In this context, he assessed that Kosovo has the opportunity to benefit by positioning itself as a constructive partner for the West.
"Kosovo can emerge as a source of stability if it puts state interests first and avoids divisive policies," he stressed.
Joseph warned that unnecessary new elections could damage this position and called on Kurti to build internal consensus.
He added that a more collaborative approach could bring greater support from the European Union, as well as the US.
Finally, Joseph emphasized that the international perception of Prime Minister Kurti must change.
"He has the opportunity to show that Kosovo is a valuable partner for the EU, NATO and the US," he concluded.
