An arrest was made at Milan's Malpensa airport, where Italian police detained a 36-year-old Albanian man with an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
The suspect was also arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon and receiving stolen goods.
The Border Police Office's investigation began with an incident on April 13, when the 36-year-old, upon seeing a patrol, ran away, trying to blend in with passengers and throwing off his jacket to avoid being recognized. He then managed to escape in a car.
Analysis of video surveillance systems and the use of databases, supported by facial recognition technology, were essential in identifying him.
The investigations led to a final court order against the Albanian, with a sentence of one year and one month in prison, in addition to other pending charges.
Investigators also traced his contacts, identifying a woman and a child linked to him who had returned from Baku in recent days. In the arrivals area, while waiting to meet them, the 36-year-old was stopped by officers before leaving the airport.
The personal and vehicle search led to the seizure of a 7.65 caliber Beretta pistol with an obliterated serial number, a magazine with eight rounds, and a bullet already in the chamber, hidden among the clothes in the trunk.
Also found were burglary tools, electronic devices including a GPS tracker and mobile phones, as well as two pairs of cloned license plates: one of them is believed to be linked to an attempted robbery at an ATM in the Cuneo area, informs media Italian.
At the end of the operation, the man was arrested and transferred to the Busto Arsizio prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
