Albanian journalist in Athens, Etmond Guri, has spoken about Greece's stance on recognizing Kosovo's independence, saying that such a step is very difficult and almost impossible under current circumstances.

According to him, one of the main reasons remains the Cyprus issue.

"It is undoubtedly Cyprus. The fact that it is a country divided between the European part and the one occupied by Turkey puts Greece in a very delicate position. Recognizing Kosovo would create a major political, diplomatic and historical challenge for Athens," Guri said on the "Balkan Talks" show with journalist Franko Egro.

He also mentioned recent international developments, noting that many world leaders have openly sided with the United States after the recent operation against Nicolas Maduro.

Guri also recalled the statements of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, which have caused domestic reactions and sparked diplomatic debate. "His statement was interpreted as if Greece was legitimizing Turkey's actions in Cyprus in the 70s. This created great concern, to the point that immediate clarifications were needed from important Greek figures," he said.

In the context of relations with Kosovo, Guri emphasized that international pressure and economic interests can create a new format of cooperation, but not necessarily full recognition.

"Recognition of Kosovo by Greece remains very difficult, if not impossible. Any such step would have a major impact on the entire political balance of the Balkans," he concluded./Euronews Albania
