The Federal Police arrested an Albanian citizen in Rosenheim who had presented a forged Greek identity card.
The Federal Police arrested a 46-year-old Albanian man in Rosenheim on Tuesday (May 19). According to initial findings, he had been living illegally in Germany for approximately eleven years, albinfo.ch reports. Using a forged Greek identity card, he had managed to live and work in the administrative region of Upper Bavaria since 2015.
During a border police check on a long-distance train from Verona, the man presented a Greek identity card. However, federal police officers identified the card as a fake during the inspection, dpa.de reports. At Rosenheim station, the 46-year-old had to get off the train and accompany the officers to the local police station.
As revealed by his fingerprints, he was not Greek, but an Albanian citizen. He had obtained the fake ID card in 2015, after his asylum application in Germany was rejected, albinfo.ch reports. Since then, he had deceived authorities, banks and a health insurance company about his real identity using false information.
The Rosenheim Federal Police filed charges against the Albanian citizen for attempted illegal entry, illegal stay and document forgery.
In addition to the criminal charges, he received a four-year entry and residence ban for the Federal Republic of Germany.
