The State Police has intensified investigative and operational actions to prevent arson and punish perpetrators, continuing on-site cooperation with fire services, the Armed Forces and Civil Emergencies to manage the critical fire situation that has engulfed several regions of the country.

During the last 72 hours, as a result of coordinated work and information collected operationally, 12 citizens have been arrested and criminally prosecuted, suspected of intentional or negligent arson.

The Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, has placed local structures on full alert, with instructions to increase preventive and punitive measures against any case of arson.

Meanwhile, the police are appealing to residents to refrain from lighting fires in open areas, especially in wooded areas or pastures.

"Do not burn waste and exercise extreme caution with flammable materials such as cigarettes. Any fire, even if caused by negligence, will be treated as a criminal offense," the police say.

Appeal to not cause fires, intentionally or through negligence, as any perpetrator will face the law.

The State Police structures, in addition to their engagement on the ground in cooperation with the fire services, the forces of the Ministry of Defense and Civil Emergencies, to evacuate residents at risk from fires and to extinguish them, are continuing intensive investigative and operational actions to identify, capture and arrest the perpetrators of arson, whether intentional or caused by negligence.

As a result of the rapid and coordinated response of the Police structures, based on information obtained through operational channels, during the last 72 hours, 12 citizens suspected of being perpetrators of arson in several regions of the country have been identified, captured, arrested or criminally prosecuted, specifically:

Tirana: The perpetrator of the arson in the protected area of Mali me Gropa is arrested.

Durrës/Shijak: The suspected perpetrator of the fire that engulfed a forest area in the village of Shetel, Gjepalaj Administrative Unit, endangering surrounding homes, has been arrested.

Fier: The perpetrator of the arson in the village of Frakull e Vogël has been arrested, and another citizen who burned waste on his land, in the village of Stan Karbunarë, damaging several olive tree roots owned by another citizen, is being prosecuted.

Vlora: A citizen is detained for intentional arson during territory clearing, which caused the burning of a large area of vegetation on Shashica Mountain.

Saranda: A 59-year-old man is being prosecuted for arson on Mount Finiq.

Gjirokastër: The perpetrator of the arson in the village of Kakavijë is arrested.

Kurbin: A citizen is being prosecuted for burning an area in the protected area of Shkopet, as a result of a conflict with residents.

Dibër: Criminal proceedings are being initiated against a citizen who caused the burning of a significant area of vegetation in the village of Dovolan.

Shkodra: Criminal proceedings are being filed against a citizen who set fire to waste and, as a result of the spread of the flames, burned an area of vegetation.

Poliçan: A 57-year-old man is being prosecuted after he started a fire in the village of Lybeshë and as a result, an area of land with vegetation was burned, in a place called "Berthanes".

Belsh/Cërrik: A citizen has been arrested in flagrante delicto, after allegedly setting fire to his land and, as a result of the flames spreading, burning an area of land with olive trees and a forest area.

The Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda, has put all local structures on alert, with clear instructions to intensify preventive, investigative and punitive measures against any case of arson, whether intentional or caused by negligence.

The State Police appeals to all residents, and especially those who use pasture land, not to light fires under any circumstances, as they will face the full force of the law. Citizens should also exercise maximum caution, especially not to throw lit cigarettes on the roadside, as they can cause fires.

The State Police is determined to bring to justice all those who, intentionally or negligently, burn forests, pastures, private property and seriously endanger the lives of citizens, police officers, firefighters and all those engaged in extinguishing fires.
