Akil Gjakova has reached the quarterfinals of the European Judo Championship, which is being held in Podgorica, Montenegro.
The Kosovar contestant was defeated by Georgian Lasha Shavdatuashvili in a marathon match, writes "Gazeta Express".
However, despite the loss, Akili will have another chance.
He will seek the medal through the repechage, where he will first face Hungarian Daniel Szegedi.
Gjakova had passed the first round in the up to 73 kilogram category without a fight, while in the second he defeated Frenchman Maxime Gobert.
In the third round, he won against Moldovan Victor Sterpu, only to be eliminated in the quarterfinals.
