Akil Gjakova has advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Judo Championship, which is being held in Podgorica, Montenegro.
The Kosovar contestant advanced to the eighth round of the finals after making a spectacular throw of his opponent Victor Sterpu to win by Ippon, writes "Gazeta Express".
Earlier, Gjakova, who is competing in the 73-kilogram category, passed the first round without a fight, while in the second he defeated Frenchman Maxime Gobert, who suffered a knee injury and withdrew from the fight after being unable to continue.
In the third round, Gjakova proved to be better than their Moldovan opponent to secure qualification to the quarterfinals, where they will face Georgian Lasha Shavdatuashvili.
