Manuel Akanji has admitted that he had the opportunity to join Milan instead of Inter during the summer transfer window, but he is happy with his choice and now aims to win two trophies this season: "It would be incredible to win two titles in my first year."

Akanji and the Nerazzurri have a 12-point lead at the top of Serie A with just five games remaining and could secure the title this weekend.

Before that, they face Como at the San Siro in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final, after a 0-0 draw in the first leg, as they aim for a "double" in coach Cristian Chivu's first full season in charge.

The Swiss defender believes it is only a matter of time before Inter win trophies, but warns that the move to Como will not be easy, even though they play at home.

Speaking about Inter, he stressed that he has adapted very well.

"The team and the coach made it very easy for me to integrate. I feel very good playing both in the center and on the right of the defense with three players. I had a very good season and we will try to finish it as strong as possible," he said.

Akanji also confirmed that he had spoken to Milan.

"I spoke to Milan during the summer, but I thought Inter was a more suitable destination for me and I think I made the right choice. My agent negotiated with the club and it was better for me to come here," he added.

He is currently on loan with an option to buy, which could become mandatory if Inter win the title.

However, the player himself does not want to talk about the future.

"When and if we win these trophies, then we will sit down and decide on the next steps. I feel good here, but this is not the time to talk about that," he said.

Akanji also praised the work of coach Cristian Chivu.

"He has managed the season brilliantly, has always brought a positive atmosphere and has helped us in difficult moments. It is not easy in a season with so many obstacles," he said.

Asked about teammate Alessandro Bastoni, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona, Akanji said: "I know it's a big topic in Italy. In every interview they ask me about him. You'd better ask him about the future. I have a very good relationship with him and I would be happy if he stays."

Inter are very close to their 21st league title and can mathematically secure it this weekend.

If not, there will be four more opportunities to do so.

"We are in a very good situation in Serie A, with 12 points more than Milan and Napoli, but the Coppa Italia is a different story. We have no advantage other than the fact that we play at home. Como will come motivated, but we want the final and we will give our best," Akanji concluded./Express newspaper/
