Ben Affleck has said that soaring production costs are transforming the film industry, lending some weight to claims that Hollywood is in decline.

During an interview on the All the Smoke podcast, the American actor and director emphasized that the current challenges are not related to a lack of interest in films, but to the difficulty in financing projects.

He recalled that in the past, many films were made with modest budgets, while today entering the industry requires significantly higher investments, limiting the space for smaller and experimental projects.

According to Affleck, there is a need for a model that allows for the production of films that are not necessarily commercial, without excessive costs, but with professional standards. He also noted that filming in California has become more expensive compared to other countries that offer fiscal incentives to the film industry.

Speaking about current budgets, Affleck pointed out that a film aiming for theatrical release usually requires at least around 20–23 million euros as a starting point.

This amount can increase significantly with the inclusion of visual effects or action scenes, while marketing costs often reach levels similar to production, bringing the total investment to around 40–50 million euros.

However, he underlined that the industry remains active, adding that he himself continues to be engaged in new projects as an actor and producer. /GazetaExpress/
