Gzim Shala, senior researcher at the Kosovo Law Institute (KLI), said that basic prosecutors' offices in the country have a high caseload in relation to the number of prosecutors.

During the publication of reports showing the situation in the Department for Serious Crimes and the General Department - Criminal Division, Shala said that the reports were compiled based on direct analysis of indictments and verdicts, also in close cooperation with all courts and prosecutors' offices.

"The findings show that regarding the general departments at the national level, there is a negative balance that the prosecution offices have not managed to resolve as many cases as they have received - the only exception in this case is the Basic Prosecution Office in Peja, which has managed to resolve 192 more cases than it has received," said Shala, reports Betimi për Drejtësi.

Shala said that they have analyzed another issue related to the workload of prosecutors in relation to the number of prosecutors.

"The findings show that the workload is relatively high because on average at the national level, a prosecutor has an average of 519 cases at work. However, even in relation to the workload in terms of the number of cases, there is a large discrepancy and differences between prosecutors' offices," said Shala.

He said that Gjakova and Mitrovica have the largest number of cases in relation to prosecutors, while Prizren has the smallest number.

Shala said that these inequalities should be addressed by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) in terms of finding a balance between the number of cases in work and the number of prosecutors.

The Kosovo Law Institute (KLI) organized a roundtable discussion on Wednesday, where it published two reports that address cases within the Department for Serious Crimes and the General Department - Criminal Division.
