The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) through a statement emphasizes its continuous and active cooperation with associations and institutions that work to protect the rights and safety of journalists.
As part of this commitment and close cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and the AJM, a link to the register of attacks on journalists has been placed on the main website of the Ministry of Interior, which leads to the AJM website where the register is published. This register presents cases of violations of journalists’ rights – with details on the type of attack, location, status of the complaint and the procedure.
"The safety of journalists is one of the main priorities for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and in recent years intensive work has been done in this field, while the results of this commitment are visible. Among other things, a point of contact was also appointed, which contributed greatly to the faster and more efficient clarification of cases related to journalists. Of course, in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to work in this field," the statement said.
The formation of the National Committee for the Protection of Journalists represents an inter-sectoral body, a combination of government institutions and non-governmental organizations, among others, related to the journalism profession.
"The formation process is ongoing and after its finalization, one of the main tasks will be the adoption of the National Action Plan for the Protection of Journalists. This is a process that is being implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe's Safety of Journalists campaign, in coordination with the national contact point. Coordination between the police, the prosecution and journalists' organizations is at a high level and this contributes greatly to the rapid and efficient resolution of cases involving journalists. Such cooperation should continue in the coming period with the aim of more effectively resolving any case of attack on a media worker. Guided by the motto 'It can always be better', the police, the prosecution and journalists' organizations will greatly increase and improve the already high level of mutual cooperation in the near future," the statement states.
They emphasize that the handbook for the safety of journalists, which was compiled in coordination with the AJGM and the PTHP, is being applied in the MUP and was updated last year. It will be further enriched and updated in the future in order to improve and increase the level of safety of journalists, safety which is at the top of the priorities of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
