Recently, 30 students at the "Elena Gjika" primary school in Pristina took on another activity.
The 30-day activity was proposed by their teacher, Arietë Bajrami.
Its goal is the appropriate use of digital devices while staying at home.
"This activity started in my class, where 30 students, whom I also call worker bees, were present. This project is called 30 days of digital awareness. The goal of this project is to teach them how to use technology properly and reach a level where they are aware of how to transform the time they have spent on technology that has not been productive into productive time and achieve better results for themselves," says teacher Arietë Bajrami.
The teacher explained the reasons why the activity only provides for the restriction, and not a complete ban, of the use of phones.
"Children are much more attentive in class, they have become less forgetful about homework, and they are also finding creative ideas that they can do at home, and they can also do things with technology that they have not done before," she says.
The project that started within this class can soon be applied to other schools in the country.
"We are now in the process of creating a pilot pedagogical project that aims to include other classes and other schools. Of course, we are open to collaborations in this case, as all those who are interested can carry out the project to the end. I would like it to be structured and have tangible and measurable effects so that it can be implemented in other schools as well," says Bajrami.
Although there may be partial restrictions on the use of phones at home, this device is prohibited at school.
"They are prohibited from using phones during class, except in cases of some technological work, but generally, phones are prohibited during class. The entrance to each classroom is a small closet that is locked with a key and they put the phones there at the beginning of the learning process and take them after six o'clock", Albana Zekaj - Kelmendi - head of the high school.
The project launched for digital awareness has also been supported by the students' parents.
