Three years after the sale of Chelsea, former owner Roman Abramovich is still at the center of a clash with the British government over the use of around 2.5 billion pounds (nearly 3 billion euros) that came from the sale of the club.

The money remains frozen in a bank account in the United Kingdom, after Abramovich was sanctioned in 2022 for his ties to the Kremlin following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, British media wrote, reports "Gazeta Express".

For this reason, the sale of the club was expedited and ownership passed to a consortium led by Todd Boehly.

At the time, Abramovich had stated that the proceeds from the sale would be donated to victims of the war in Ukraine, but today there is a conflict over how these funds should be used.

The British government wants all funds to be used exclusively for humanitarian aid to Ukraine, while Abramovich wants them to go to all victims of the war, not just Ukrainians.

For this reason, the money continues to be blocked and the parties are preparing for a possible legal battle if an agreement is not reached on how to distribute it. /Express newspaper
