Kosovo Customs has prevented the smuggling of about 200 kilograms of meat at the Glloboçicë Border Crossing Point. According to authorities, the meat was divided into 10 portions of 20 kg and was being transported in a passenger vehicle without hygienic conditions and without sanitary control, reports TV21. The goods have been seized and the case has been processed for a misdemeanor.
"Kosovo Customs prevents smuggling of 200 kg of meat (dinner) in Glloboçica - major risk to public health avoided. Last night, at around 18:20, at the Glloboçica Border Crossing Point, at the entrance to the country, customs officials stopped a passenger vehicle for inspection. Although the driver of the vehicle stated that he had nothing to present to the authorities, after a detailed inspection of the vehicle, 10 rolls of dinner weighing 20 kg each were discovered, in a total amount of around 200 kg and with an approximate value of 800 euros. Beyond the attempt to evade customs duties and taxes, this case represents a high concern for food safety. The quantity of meat was being transported in an ordinary passenger vehicle, in a complete lack of hygienic conditions and without adequate temperature (no refrigerator), thus also aiming to avoid the necessary sanitary control by the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV). The entry of such products outside any transport standard and without professional control constitutes a potentially high risk to health, where this amount of meat could affect thousands of citizens. The goods were immediately seized and will be subject to further legal treatment to ensure the complete neutralization of the risk, while a misdemeanor procedure has been initiated against the party, "the Customs announcement states, among other things.
