The campaign for the extraordinary mayoral elections in the four Serb-majority municipalities of Kosovo has started today. Mayoral elections in Mitrovica North, Leposaivc, Zubin Potok and Zvecan, will be held on 19 May.
The Central Elections Commission (CEC) has made all preparations for the elections. The CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi told Radio Kosova that the election campaign will last until 17 May and the deadline for registering of election observers has expired on Sunday. He said that the CEC has engaged 670 election commissioners for the extraordinary elections in northern Kosovo who will monitor the election process in 87 polling centres.
Kosovo president Hashim Thaci has announced early elections in the four Serb-amjority municipalities after former mayors resigned protesting the Kosovo Government’s decision to introduce 100 percent tax on all Serbia’s goods.
