Hours before Kosovo Parliament is set to vote the disputed Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro, the President Hashim Thaci urged all MPs to vote the border deal stating its ratification will strengthen country’s EU integration and sovereignty.
Thaci who signed the deal in his capacity as foreign minister back in 2015 has repeatedly asked MPs to ratify the deal as one of the last criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation with the EU. However opposition parties continue disputing border delineation with Montenegro arguing that Kosovo loses over 8000 hectares of land. Thaci in a statement posted in his Twitter on Wednesday only a day before Parliament is expected to vote the border deal, has urged again MPs to vote the deal. “Tomorrow I expect all MPs in Kosovo Parliament to focus on enabling freedom of movement for our citizens, opening new paths for our students and creating new chances for our entrepreneurs. Demarcation of the border is a vote to strengthen our EU integration & our sovereignty,” Thaci wrote a statement in English.
Kosovo Parliament will convene on Thursday to vote on ratification of demarcation and it remains unclear whether ruling coalition has 80 votes out of 120 seated Parliament to finally ratify it almost three years after signing the deal with Montenegro. /Express/
